TL;DR: on the Saitek website, when you're asked for an operating system, select windows 10, even if you don't have it.Long Version: I just wasted a good 24h on trying to get anything working - the drivers and software that came with the device, the windows 7 drivers from the website (the links are broken), stuff from their ftp server - multiple version that somehow have been recommended by someone on forums, including the frontier forum. Nothing ever worked: driver tab was missing the led selections and clutch button checkboxes, the programming software crashed or didnt create usuable profiles, system crashing with bluescreen (never had that before) etc. Selecting the windows 10 64 bit drivers was the solution. On top of that, you might want to make sure the device is connected to an USB 2.0 Port. It takes a bit of getting used to, but I feel that a hotas give you a much more fluid and precise control of your ship than kb+m.

The main advantage is that you don't have to hunt for your 'neutral' position to stop your ship from pitching, yawing, or rolling like you do with your mouse.I have an x52 and I feel like the biggest advantages it allows me are the ability to use fixed weapons more effectively, and manage my power distribution, subsystem targets, and weapon selection while still maneuvering. I can only tell you my experience. I was starting with KB+M ( a razer mamba) and I became pretty decent with it. At some point I was hitting a wall - mostly because I couldn't get aiming with fixed weapons and FAOFF improved over a certain level.Bought a cheap f.l.y. 5 - worst idea ever. Because of the design of the spring system, it would serve better as a fitness device in a gym than a precision tool for aiming. So, I got the x52 Pro and even tho I'm still not fully used to it and I'm sometimes flying like a drunk, I can already tell you one thing: I'm finally able to perfectly hit with fixed weapons!

This product is from a whole different galaxy. It's got all the buttons you want and the quality is amazing (and that is coming from a picky complainer with full blown german attitude). If there was one thing I would change if I could travel back in time: I would never have played E:D with anything but this. I have an odd way around this. I don't know how i did it, or how to do it again, but my 52 pro only works with (near)full functionality when plugged into a particular usb.I can plug it into one, and get all buttons working, including the mouse and scroll wheel bits, down side is that the lights on the throttle wont light up.If i plug it into ANY other usb on my PC, everything lights up, but I cant use the (i) button or the mouse and scroll wheel controls.I would try your method, but I don't want to upset this delicate balance, lest I lose (i) for ever. Sounds like you're running into the typical USB problems: while the stick was already working for me even if connected to an USB 3.0 Port, the programming/profile display on the mfd etc. On top of that, USB devices might behave different depending on what USB controller/hub hardware they are connected to for a myriad of reasons.

That is a generic problem with USB and the HOTAS isn't an exception.Never touch a running system XD. If it is working for you, don't touch anything. Might be getting worse. The safe way to try it would include creating a full binary image of your harddrive - and even then, my X52 Pro did change it's behavior out of sudden, so I assume there is a programming stored inside the device.

So even with a full system image you may lose your status quo.
